The screensaver options on Microsoft 7 are grossly inferior to those provided on XP. I want a screensaver that shows photos from a file on my PC in a VARYING random order, not always the same order. I want a screensaver that does NOT resize photos so they are all huge and (originally) 'smaller' pictures look all blurry. I want a screensaver that has varying transitions like the 'My Pictures Slideshow' that was on Windows XP not just one choice of (really lumpen, unsubtle) change from one photo to another, again and again. Windows 7 is a real dog. Really inflexible and apparently designed for people who have no knowledge of computing whatsoever.

Infuriating in its inflexibility. Does anyone know how I can get the Windows XP style 'My Pictures Slideshow' screensaver loaded on Windows 7? Or is this just another example of Microsoft enforcing backward steps whether people like it or not?:(. In Windows XP, we had a very good screensaver showing pics, called ssmypics.scr. If we wanted, it showed pix filenames, which is important to a lot of us. When displaying thousands of pics at random, it is useful to see what they refer to.

Windows 7 brought us many good things, we were told, but we lost the option to show filenames. A turnaround was proposed by the IT community, in copying ssmypics.scr from our windows XP to some Win7 folder. And it worked. Today, it no longer works, though my ssmypics.scr is still there. I guess the automatic update that sometimes happens decided I had to go back to the new, worse, screen saver. How do I recover a function that I paid for, with no time limit? Thank you, JMS.

You can use the old ssmypics.scr from Windows XP and it works fine in Windows 7. We use two screen savers, one for not logged in (runs from c and a logged in screen saver (runs from the server). These are the keys I used in the build, pick out the keys of interest to customise it for your own preferences. Found the solution over here: 1. I added ANONYMOUS LOGON to the permissions of the file share and NTFS folder.

Note: You need to specify ANONYMOUS LOGON because it is not included in the 'Everyone' group ( article here ) and that is what the Local Service uses. The permissions that I have on the shares and files are read only for Domain Users, ANONYMOUS LOGON. You need to update to update the Local GPO on the file server. Run gpedit.msc, go to Computer Configuration Windows Settings Security Settings Local Policies Security Options and specify the share name where the pictures are stored under the 'Network Access: Shares that can be access anonymously' policy.

Hope that helps. Can confirm it works. Found the solution over here: 1. I added ANONYMOUS LOGON to the permissions of the file share and NTFS folder. Can confirm it works Hi Guys I've found about 3 threads on different forums and found they all say the same thing about share permissions, regedits etc. I've followed all steps to the T and i'm still getting the 'no photos on server share' Do i need to reboot the server for the local secpol to take affect even though i've ran a gpupdate?
